Syncing problems

I had this posted in the help forum and received no replies at all so I'm hoping I can get some help here.
A few weeks ago my iPad suddenly stopped syncing contacts and calendar. I checked iCloud and the info is there and it syncs fine with my iPhone 5. I called Apple support and they had me turn on and off syncing in settings. Didn't work. The only thing that DID work was restoring from an older backup. But that caused me to loose most of my pics and data so I re-restored from a more recent backup to get that data back. Now I'm back to the original problem of not being able to sync contacts and calendar info from my iPhone to my iPad. Help?

Please no duplication of threads. It fragments the conversation and makes it hard to follow, besides being against forum rules.
