Unless renewed, I believe the copyright expires 50 years after the author's death.
Daniel deFoe died on 24th April 1731, so Robinson Crusoe would have gone out of copyright on the same date in 1781.
Anyway, the correct answer appears to be that the book is no longer in copyright, and is therefore in the public domain.
