What is best for others may not be best for you, likewise what is best for you may not be best for others. So it's really about minimizing your losses until you're lucky enough to succeed. Any combo with fire and metal present can result a Gold, even simply fire+metal, but again it's all about probability and luck!
So my suggestion is to eliminate the long fail time, don't breed dragons that have equivalent of 4 different elements to eliminate getting a rainbow, don't breed dragons that have both cold and lightning present in combo to eliminate getting sun/moon.

Why not use chrome+scorch instead. It can also get you rainbow, ruby and gold. I got 2 rainbow from that combo.

im looking at getting a second bluefire and my first frostfire. will the same combo work at getting both. technically i would think so but im open to any ideas. ☀

Yeah the addition of Gold may be bad for those who are still trying to get one ruby. But don't be discourage, who knows you may get back to back to back ruby. ;) i got 4 rare in less than 36hrs. :D

For BlueFire:
Fire+Evergreen
The possible results are: Poison (30 minutes), Flower (1 hour), Lichen (6 hours) Evergreen (10 hours), Blue Fire Dragon (12 hours).

For FrostFire:
Cold+Flower
The possible results are:
Poison Dragon (30 min), a Flower Dragon (1 hr), a Lichen Dragon (6 hrs), Evergreen Dragon (10hrs) and FrostFire (12hrs)
