I thought for whoever did not want to sift through the 1200+ pages of the Dragonvale Strategy thread, I would make this post, where people looking for Breeding Strategies for the Rare dragons would just come to PAGE 1 to find it and not have to continually ask "How do I breed a Rainbow?" etc.
I have posted the MOST COMMONLY CONFIRMED / REPORTED WAYS to breed these RARE dragons. There of course are other combos, but they have only been reported once or a few times.
RARE DRAGONS have A HUGE element of CHANCE, so keep trying!!

ADDITIONAL TIPS (Courtesy of "GT500Girl")

If a combo is not working for you switch the order they are put into the breeding cave. Ex: blue fire left / crystal right, try crystal left / blue fire right

If all else fails move onto another combination. Sometimes it seems like one combo will work for one person but not another.

There are lucky people, and sometimes they come on the first or second try but I would not count on it. Sometimes you have to try the same combo over and over again. Some combo's took some more than 50 tries.

I have had two moons from cold + firefly (one is sitting in the hatchery as I write). I must have used the combo about 30 times though, initially I was trying for frost fire.

Also willow and lava have given me two rainbows.

All the dragons were level 10. Wishing everyone luck in their hunt for rares.

Myself and wife both got our first two rainbows from seaweed( left). And firefly ( right) seems most effective

You breed the rainbow using lvl 10 fog and lvl 10 lava , I guarantee that you will get a rainbow or panlong in less then ten tries
