Food is vexing. The Pumpermelons at $15,000 are A LOT cheaper than the high volume purchases. But the high level of cash flow that I was generating necessitated that I use the bigger volume purchases, mainly $500,000 and $1,000,00. Anything lower and the system was swamped, even when I had the maximum number of farms. So I pared it down to four farms and used the bigger volumes. Kind of a contradiction by the game designer. They want you to be impatient and buy gems to speed things up, but when you do you are heavily penalized. I forget the math but as I recall it's about 2 1/2 times as expensive to buy treats in larger volumes. It's a real choke point. Poor design methinks.
I was away from home all day today, and I switched my iPhone to my iPad account. When I had some downtime during a photoshoot I went and collected some party hats. I never noticed that before, maybe because I don't really ever collect the hats on my phone, but the friends names don't show when the list is displayed. It's like they are covered by the list.
Is that always like that? I thought when BFS made the change a long time ago they changed it for all devices? It's so hard trying to remember whose park one is in. Not to mention that my eyes felt really strained. Kudos to all you iPhone players, my hat's off to you!!!

Well got called to work earlier today so didnt get as much coins collected as I could have today so im still at $33million then Im taking my gf out tomorrow since we both have the,day off so were gonna go out and eat nd go watch a movie so it might take me a lil longer than I expected to get that $50million island
If 5 ppl on my gc account that I have still have a.gem to send can I get one I will make sure u 5 ppl get a gem back tomorrow.
Hey all. I had a really busy last several days and hardly had time to collect coins, much less check in here.
However, my good news is I now have a sun - hooray!! So, two rares at the moment, sun and moon. Having NO luck at all trying for rainbow or panlong, using any of the combos/levels that have been suggested. I keep getting other hybrids instead. Sigh... I broke down and bought a bag of gems (10 bucks!) and trying now to decide if I should use some to again upgrade my HC, or to buy a gem tree. Mostly I'm speeding up disappointing breeds, to try again.
Hope you're all doing well, and happy valentine's, everyone!

Some Math on Buying Treats
I mentioned earlier that the Pumpermelons at 800 treats for $15,000 were a much better deal than the $500K, $1M and $5M purchases. I checked my notes and the cost is 2.67 times higher using high volume purchases. I think we determined that the cost in treats to take a dragon from level 1 to level 15 is about 367,000. Here's what it costs in gold coins using Pumpermelons vs. the volume options:
0 Pumpermelons: $6,881,250
0 High Volume Options: $18,350,000
Again, you would think a company that makes their living from impatience on the part of their players wouldn't penalize them when they speed things up. It's either a design flaw or a sucker punch.

Food break down is at Treat Farms - DragonVale Wiki
Back when I first started the game I couldn't work out why it was costing me more to wait longer to buy less food. I eventually worked out that the benefit I was getting (apart from not having to reorder the food so frequently) was that the XP was getting cheaper. The loss of value in food was being offset by the XP I was earning to help me level up.
The huge treat farms allow you to save on time at the expense of XP and value because when you're at the level of needing to generate 10 000 food in a minute, you're not so concerned about earning the XP and leveling up, especially if you're at level 30.
If there's been a mis-step in the treat farms, it's the fact that the 3 foods added to the Huge Treat Farm have the same cost to buy, and the same XP received. There is no benefit to making the "slower" food, aside from not having to make it every minute. And even if you're making 4.5 million coins in an hour, 60 seconds later that can all be food with 9 treat farms. The million and 5 million purchases should be a bit better value imo.
