The Pokémon Company has today announced that it has released an official Pokémon Pokédex iOS app in the App Store, which is noteworthy even if you’re not a Pokémon fan, simply because of the fact that Pokémon is usually considered to be a Nintendo product, and until now Nintendo has steered well clear of letting its star vehicles anywhere near iOS. Maybe now Nintendo is realizing that it could be beneficial to give iOS gamers the magic Nintendo action that they crave. Not that this means we will be seeing Mario or Link on iOS anytime soon, but it could be an indication that Nintendo is softening to the idea. But if you are a Pokémon fan of course, this app is even more exciting! Anyone that plays Pokémon on Nintendo’s handheld consoles knows that part of the fun is scrolling through your (hopefully) massive collection of Pokémon in your Pokédex. This app goes one better than that, being an illustrated encyclopedia of more than 640 Pokémon characters for iOS. The wide range of data for each character includes info on how to evolve a Pokémon, where you can find specific Pokémon, and which types of attack a Pokémon is most vulnerable to. The user can sort their Pokémon in various ways, based on their characteristics. Each Pokémon is treated to a 360-degree image, complete with full encyclopedia entry, with name, height and weight, type, Ability, and possible moves that it can learn. The app also includes Pokémon locations from Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.
The initial download price is Ł1.49, for which you get immediate access to the Unova Pokédex, you can then pay to download the Pokédex for other regions, such as Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, for Ł3.99 each. A little pricey, but it really does seem to be a gorgeous collection! Maybe Mario on iOS isn’t such a unlikely dream after all!
