According to the usually very accurate Philip Elmer-DeWitt at Apple 2.0, Apple is readying the invites for an iPad mini launch event, and will be sending them out on October 10. Elmer-DeWitt says that he has heard from a major Apple investor, who chooses to remain anonymous, that this is the case. Elmer-DeWitt goes on to say that this would most likely mean that the event itself will actually take place on Wednesday October 17, for a launch date of Friday November 2. Elmer-DeWitt says that some have been calling the new, 7.85-inch version of the iPad, the “iPad air”, but there is no confirmation yet as to whether or not this will be the new mini tablet’s actual name. As Elmer-DeWitt also notes, Apple has yet to make any comment on the existence of an iPad mini, but, as he says, Apple never does comment on such things until it actually makes a formal announcement.
