Yes, I read afterwards that it has limited coverage. Looks good, though. And thanks for the TransCanada Highway.Originally Posted by scifan57
The Flyover feature may look "cool", but in truth it's a useless gimmick, designed for kiddies who want to play at being Superman. It fulfils no useful function.
The rest of the Apple Maps is a disaster, with inaccurate detail, reduced coverage, inferior graphics and glaring inaccuracies wherever you look. I've compared the two systems in detail, on one iPad updated with iOS 6 and another (mine) still running iOS 5. Needless to say, I won't be updating mine – I'll be sticking with iOS 5 and Google Maps.
It's a pity, as there are some other features of iOS 6 that look useful, but I would sooner do without those new features than lose the hugely superior Google Maps.
Comparing the quality of Google maps to the new Apple maps is like comparing apples to oranges. google maps have been around for years and have had their database continuously added to and corrected. You can't have a fair comparison with Apple maps which just started and simply have not had enough time to generate the huge database that Google maps has. A fair comparison would be to compare the new Apple maps to what Google maps were at their start.

This isn't an academic exercise, though. We're talking about what feature users had come to rely on and expect, and now going backward with Apple maps. If a new car maker emerged now, I'd compare its cars against other cars available now, not against the first car that Ford ever produced, for instance.
Can I just say that for someone like me who would never be able to visit all these cities. Having flyover is fantastic. It feels like I'm a bird and I'm actually there. So please, it's not totally useless
