AppleInsider writes that according to a new note from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, the new iPad’s spectacular launch figures reveal that iPad sales are increasing at an accelerated rate of 156% year over year, setting them on a course to become “measurably larger” than PCs. Munster says that most people thought that Apple would sell between 1 million and 2 million new iPads following Friday’s launch, but Apple confounded them all by selling 3 million iPads in just three days. These figures indicate that Apple is likely to sell 12 million iPads in the current March quarter, with the resultant 156% growth a big increase from the 111% year-over-year growth in the December 2011 quarter. Munster goes on to say that he expects Apple to maintain its majority share of the tablet market for at least the next three years, writing:

“We believe the unprecedented ramp of the iPad over the past year is evidence that the tablet market will be measurably larger than the PC market.”
