The story of The Daily saying it's seen a prototype of Microsoft Office working on the iPad and Microsoft saying The Daily is inaccurate, and generally being a big vague and secretive without actually denying anything flat out, took another turn last night, with the author of The Daily report, Matt Hickey, responding to Microsoft’s denial by posting a picture of the Office for iPad icon actually running on an iPad! 9to5 Mac has a fascinating round up of Twitter conversations from the major players in the saga, with Microsoft still saying that The Daily’s previous picture of Office for iPad is a fake, and Peter Ha at The Daily responding to being tweeted this information by ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley with the following tweet:

“we did not fabricate either image. A working version of the app was demoed to us by Microsoft.”

Intriguing, yes?! Expect to hear further developments on this story today.
