Adobe Reader for iOS Launched Today

Adobe announced today via the Acrobat Blog that it has just released Adobe Reader for iOS to the App Store. The free app is designed to make it easy for you to read and interact with any PDF file on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, including PDF Portfolios, password-protected documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files. According to the blog, you can use the new app to open and view PDF files from email, on the Web (in your Safari browser) or from any app that supports the “Open In” feature. Although it is basically just an iOS version of Reader, and you can’t annotate or make notes on the PDFs, you can interact in a limited way with the files. For example, there’s a search feature where you can search for specific text, and you can also use bookmarks and page thumbnails for quick navigation through the PDF, and you can also copy text. The app will also enable you to print the PDF wirelessly using iOS AirPrint.

If you simply want a quick and efficient PDF reader that does its main job very well, then this is perfect, but if you want to be able to make notes or annotate the PDFs, then there are already some good ones on the App Store that will let you do that, and many of them come in free, Lite versions.

Not so technically minded, so can I just ask... does this mean if I am on my university website on my iPad 2, and I need to view a pdf, I can download it to the iPad, and then view it on this app? I don't need to download it to my laptop?

    or GoodReader.

Also, if you look forward to viewing Flash on iPad, you're going to be looking for a long time.

The iPad cannot play Flash - and it never will ever be able to.
