According to a report from 9to5 Mac today, Apple and Sprint are on the verge of releasing a Sprint-compatible iPad 2, possibly on or around the same date that Sprint releases the iPhone 5 (or whatever it will be called!) 9to5 Mac says that it has heard from its sources that the next iPhone will be released on October 7, although others have said mid-October. 9to5 Mac goes on to say that the Sprint iPad is completely separate to the CDMA Verizon version, although they add that they cannot yet confirm if the new device will work on Sprint’s fast 4G WiMAX network. However, if that is not the case, wouldn’t Apple have just used the Verizon CDMA iPad for the Sprint one? Either way, having another option for iPad owners with Sprint can only be a good thing, as 9to5 Mac notes, Sprint tends to favour unlimited data plans, and has been said to be planning to offer them for the next iPhone, so hopefully iPad owners can expect the same for their device too.
