PopGadget has a great feature today on a new iPad cover concept design called the Omnifer, which comes from Yanko Design, and has been designed by Jayson D’Alessandro. The concept cover, which is a 2011 International Design Excellence Awards entry, has been specifically designed to transform a flat area of the iPad case into Braille, to help the visually impaired use the iPad. According to PopGadget, the Omnifer responds to light, which means that the Braille on the cover will change when the light signals on the screen change. It works by using gas stored in the case, which is designed to respond to light, and that will raise and lower the Braille according to what letters it needs to represent. The case has a special three-panel flip design so that you can instantly switch between the Braille mode and standard mode. Unfortunately it’s still in the concept stage at present, but how amazing if it does eventually manage to reach the manufacturing stage.

I think that is an awesome idea! I know someone who is blind and that would just be amazing for them!
