2K Games has made a lot of landlubbers very happy today with the release of the classic adventure game, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for the iPad. Although the game will usually cost $6.99, it’s available for just $3.99 until July 25. In the game, you get to play the part of a pirate captain, raiding and plundering the 17th Century Caribbean. Navigate pirate ship battles and make mincemeat of your opponents in exciting sword fights using the all-new touch-screen interface as you advance in your quest to save your family from the evil Marquis de la Montalban. Along the way you’ll also have to assemble a crew of the roughest, toughest pirates around, collect secret treasure maps, undertake daring missions, wreak havoc with the local townspeople, and hand out pirate-style justice to local hooligans, and that’s before you’ve even left land!

The iPad version of the game includes classic mini-games from the original version, such as Sword Fighting, Ship Combat and Dancing. iPad 2 owners will also get special exclusive features, such as optimised visuals, the ability to “piratize” photos to display on ships, and Game Center support. And, as an extra treat to celebrate the game’s release, 2K Games has dropped the price of Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution iPad app to $6.99 until July 25.
