Eurogamer reports today that it has been told by Frontier Developments head (and [classic game] Elite creator!) David Braben at the Develop conference in the UK today that Frontier will be bringing the popular WiiWare platform game LostWinds to the iPad and iPhone. Eurogamer were the first press bods to see the game running on the iPad, and say that gameplay involves players moving the game’s star, Toku, with a virtual joypad located in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and creating wind by touching the screen. Braben told Eurogamer that the new port of the game “works very well with the Wii controller motions, but it also works on a touch interface in a very similar fashion.”
The gameplay is all about using the power of Enril the wind spirit, from raging tornados to the gentlest breeze, to guide and protect Toku, a young boy who is the only one who can release the curse placed on the world of Mistralis by the evil Balasar. Mistralis is a magical land full of wonder and intrigue that bursts into life with your every action and exploration. It looked good on the Wii, but I bet it’s going to look even better on the iPad and iPhone 4!
No word as yet as to when the game will be released in the App Store, but to whet your appetite for now you can check out the official trailer for the original WiiWare game above.
