A real treat for iOS gamers and horror movie fans this week as Backflip’s Army of Darkness: Defence goes free for a limited time, both the iPad and iPhone versions. Since it was released at the beginning of May, the game has received over 2,500 customer ratings in the App Store, maintaining a firm 4 ½ star average, and with good reason, as this is a really fun and addictive re-telling of the iconic castle defence scene from the cult classic 1992 movie, Army of Darkness.
Gamers take on the role of chiselled-chin, one-liner-spouting hero Ash, while summoning familiar troops, spells and weapons from the movie to help in the defence of the castle. Gameplay features include over 150 direct lines of dialogue from Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, and it’s these elements that will really appeal to fans of the movie in particular. Gameplay is very simple, as Ash fires automatically, so all you have to do is move him backwards and forwards by tapping the screen, but you can also unleash special shots, collect items such as iron bars to help your smithy and coins to spend on upgrades, and enlist waves of allies to help you as you attempt to repel the undead hordes. Boomtastic!
