Electric Pig has compiled some Flickr stats as a rough benchmark of how many people are using their iPad 2 camera, and it would seem that the iPad 2 lags far behind other Apple devices with cameras. According to Flickr’s daily average user stats, only 22 Flickr users out of over 40 million are using their iPad 2 camera to take shots and upload them to Flickr on average each day. In contrast, at the other end of the scale we have the iPhone 4 with 4,391 Flickr uploads, the iPhone 3G with 3,316 uploads, and the iPhone 3GS with 1,949 uploads on average per day. Electric Pig also compares the total number of images taken with the devices uploaded to Flickr, with the number of iPhone images being 51,331,761, and the number of iPad images being just 12,570. Of course the iPad 2 has been out no time at all in comparison to the other Apple devices, but even so, it does seem like a very low figure, but hardly surprising in a way, as probably the majority of people are using the iPad 2's camera for FaceTime and not much else.

Just upgraded to the 2. I use the back camera all the time, but quality is very annoying.

I've always assumed it was not intended as a 'serious' camera, but more as a gadget to supplement use of Facetime, Skype, etc. It's OK for those functions, but I wouldn't go taking my holiday snaps with it. The Lumix gets packed for travelling (and working).

I love the camera on iPhone 4 and use it often. I don't even bother with my digital camera, even when traveling abroad or taking cross-country road trips. Right now, I have about 1,500 photos on my phone, all taken with it. I have taken zero pictures with my iPad and don't see any need for the camera for my uses, except for video Skype. Even then, I don't care whether people can see me, but it's fun to see young family members on it.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this camera has a different pourpose than the one on the iPhone, or a digital point and shoot. I have upgraded from iPad to iPad2 and haven't once used the back camera for pics. I find the iPad akward to hold fot picture taking, it's too big. Besides i have my iPhone with me all the time, so no need to use an inferior camera. I think it must have one so that it could be used eventually for pics, but it seems to me ttgat the main pourpose is video, when you are facetiming, and want to show something. That's how i have used is so far.

Nothing to do with the quality as it is fine for that type of use. The main reason is it is not a big deal having a cam on board the iPad. The same applies to laptops. Based on numbers sold only a small percentage use cams on laptops. Main use is to communicate with family and friends. Mobile devices are much easier to use if one wants to use a cam.
