MacRumors updates us today with fresh rumours about the forthcoming iPad 2. Japanese blog Mac Octakara is claiming to have the scoop that the new iPad will have a smaller bezel, a flat back, like that of an iPod touch so that it can lie flat on a desk or table, and a new “wide-ranged speaker unit”, according to an anonymous Chinese source. Apparently the LCD screen will remain the same size, supporting Steve Jobs’ assertion that Apple will not be releasing a 7-inch iPad, although the new iPad will have slightly different dimensions than the current one, according to the report, measuring 239 mm by 186 mm, instead of the current 242.8 mm by 189.7 mm. The mention of a bigger, “wide-ranged speaker” unit covered with metal mesh could possibly explain the bigger space at the bottom of what were purported to be iPad 2 covers out of China that were popping up all over the web in pictures the other week, and in the video at the top of this post. All more grist to the rumour mill!
