Cnet.uk reports on some fantastic news for would-be iPad owners in the UK, namely that supermarket giant Tesco has started selling the iPad via its Tesco Direct website. All six versions of the iPad are available via the site, but possibly the best news of all is the fact that all six are also available on Buy Now Pay Later six-month interest-free credit options (cue sobbing from those of us in the UK who already have our iPads). If you either have, or sign up for, a Tesco credit card, you can buy any of the iPad models, including the top-of-the range 64GB with Wi-Fi and 3G costing £699.00, and then pay it off over the next six months completely interest free. Once the six months are up though, if you haven’t paid it off the rate will rise from zero to 16.9 percent. Really fantastic news for anyone wanting to buy an iPad in the UK.

Well that's better than some of the credit cards apple offers.... You charge a $1499 mackbook at 24% rate your just asking for trouble.....

Wow - you Brits are getting bent-over... 599 pounds for a 32GB 3G is $929US, or 200 more than Apple charges for one here. Is that the steaming pile of VAT at work?

Say, if you go through the Apple UK store, and look at the actual price BEFORE VAT, it is 509 pounds, which is still $789US, and the VAT is just $89. So it is Apple sticking it to you to an extent.

Sadly we here in the UK are used to paying considerably more for everything in comparison to the price of the same item in the US, or indeed in many other countries. It isn't simply a question of VAT, most companies charge premium prices simply because ... They CAN.

Now you know why so many make the trip to the US to go shopping. Even factoring in the travel costs it can be worthwhile!
