Pocket Gamer reports today that Dexter HD, the iPad version of the iPhone game based on the hit Showtime serial killer series, has just been released to the App Store. The game centres around the life of Dexter Morgan, a serial killer with a lust for blood who still manages to maintain a façade of normal-guy decency, and even holds down a job as, ironically enough, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department. After dark, though, Dexter exacts his own brand of bloody justice on criminals that he thinks deserve to die.
In the game, the player gets to help Dexter to choose his next victims, while maintaining his anonymity. There’s a lot of variety involved, as you have to analyse crime scenes, look for evidence and use stealth to stalk your next victim. There’s even an exclusive blood splatter analysis game where you get to act like Dexter in his day job.
The game, which has been specifically enhanced for the iPad with optimized menus and cutscenes, features over 1100 lines of dialogue, including original voiceovers from Michael C. Hall, plus an original storyline with writing by series producer Tim Schlattmann. The next-gen 3D engine allows for the use of multiple cameras, and you can pinch the screen to switch between first and 3rd person viewpoints. Controls are context-sensitive, enabling you to perform complex actions with just a tap on the screen, such as picking locks and decoding passwords.
Sounds like this is something for fans of criminal investigation games in general, of which there are far too few in the App Store, and not just for fans of the TV show.
You can download Dexter the Game HD here for £4.99/$7.99/€5.99.
