PopCap Games has announced that the long-awaited Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be released exclusively for iOS devices on July 18th. Lucky invitees at E3 in LA next week will also get the chance to see a preview of the game, although the rest of us will just have to make do with the teaser video (above) also released by PopCap. The gameplay for the sequel continues in much the same vein as the original, as the player attempts to defend their brainz against the zombie hordes. New worlds with new levels, plants, zombies and new ways to play will be released on an ongoing basis, according to PopCap. Fans will be happy to hear that Crazy Dave is back, guiding you through the game and selling you special plant upgrades from his shed. New touch-screen power-ups have been added to the game, enabling the player to break the fourth wall and actually interact with the zombies directly, as well as building up their plant defences. The game will be free to download, and the majority of it will be free to play, with the player getting to face every zombie and access every level in every world for free, which is pretty good going for a freemium game!
"It's about time!" said Allen Murray, Senior Producer for Plants vs. Zombies 2. "We're confident that players will see the love and attention we've put into this game. We've created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we're still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch."
