iDownload Blog reports today that the Evasi0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 has been downloaded to an incredible seven million devices in just four days. This makes it the most successful jailbreak ever. In the original report from Forbes, Jay Freeman, aka Saurik, said that Cydia was used by over seven million unique devices, with Freeman going on to say that Evasi0n was responsible for bringing “insanely more new traffic” to Cydia, in comparison to former jailbreaks for previous iOS versions, such as Absinthe and JailbreakMe. Freeman was even able to break down the devices that made up that overall stat, reporting 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 iPads, and 400,000 iPod touches being jailbroken using Evasi0n. And in fact, that figure might have been even higher, if not for downtime as a result of the spike in traffic to the site that lead to some devices not being counted.

“Smart phones have become more and more popular, but they’ve maintained a closed experience that makes it difficult for people to get what they want,” Freeman told Forbes. “Therefore people have needed to turn to jailbreaking to fill the gap. That’s what made this such a landmark jailbreak. It had been so long and we were all so hungry for it.”
