Tablet Gaming Revenues Set to Soar
Games Industry reports today on the findings of a new report from Juniper Research, which says that tablet gaming revenues are set to soar over the next few years, rising from $491 million in 2011 to $3.1 billion by 2014, accounting for more than a third of total mobile games revenues by 2016. While this is great news for tablets, and the iPad in particular, of course, which dominates the tablet market at present, Juniper Research says that as a result of tablets raking in such a sizeable share of mobile games revenues, mobile games revenues on featurephones will be halved in the next five years. The report goes on to say that the tablet market is particularly lucrative as tablet owners tend to have more disposable income than the smartphone user base in general. This means that not only are tablet owners prepared to spend more on a game, they will also spend more on in-app purchases. Juniper concludes by saying that the majority of tablet gaming revenues will still come from social and casual games.
