iPad Sales Could Soar to 2 Million Per Month
InformationWeek reports today that Apple could soon be seeing iPad sales topping 2 million a month if analysts predictions prove accurate. InformationWeek quotes Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo, who says that Apple's monthly iPad orders to the manufacturers in Taiwan exceeded 2 million units in July, adding that he expects orders to remain at that high level for several more months.
According to Kuo, between 2.3 and 2.35 million iPads have been outsourced by Apple to its Taiwanese manufacturers, with roughly 58 to 60 percent of these being the Wi-Fi + 3G model.
However, InformationWeek puts forward the theory that the extra orders could simply be the result of a temporary increase in demand to service the nine new territories that are getting the iPad in July (Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore). And seeing as how Apple was criticised for not being able to meet demand during the first two launch waves, it's probably making sure it's got more than enough stock on the shelves, hence the increase in orders. We shall have to wait and see what happens in August!
