iPad, beware: News Corp launches the Amplify tablet for the educational sector
Appleís iPad has been a budding force in education. Conducted surveys proved that students who used iPads in their learning activities received better grades than children who used only traditional means to do so. However, the iPad will soon have some competition in the educational sector, coming from the direction of News Corporation.
The company wishes to enter the educational market by releasing a brand new tablet which has been dubbed Amplify Tablet and is especially designed for K-12 students.
The News Corp. tablet will be an 10-inch Android powered device and will be priced somewhere between $299 and $349, but the great news is that schools will manage to buy them at a special price of $99. That is, if they also subscribe to receive Amplify curriculum educational materials.
The tablet will sport specs similar to the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TL, which is pretty impressive. It will feature the above mentioned 10-inch display plus a NVIDIA Tegra 3-quad-core CPU, a 5MP auto-focus camera with back-illuminated CMOS sensor and of course Androidís latest Jelly Bean OS.
The Amplify tablet will put the News.Corp company directly in competition with Apple. Thatís a first, since the two companies have worked together lots of times in the past. For example, News. Corp has been one of the first tech companies to back Apple up in its 99 cent TV show rental endeavor. The tablet is scheduled to arrive on the market as soon as at the end of the year.
