thinking of getting an ipad

My birthday is coming up and my sister wants to buy me something, so Im thinking of asking for an ipad, which my friend keeps telling me I MUST have. I use a PC at work, an iMac at home that was given to me - I do a lot of crosswords and lexulous, thought the ipad might be a wonderful addition for word search, etc. I write articles for local paper, read magazine articles... New technology is overwhelming to me, I still use a motorola cellphone buying minutes as I need it. what can you tell me about the ipad?
