Facebook App Help

New to the forum, not sure where I need to go to ask this question, hoping you can help. I was having problems with facebook freezing, so I deleted the app, then went to the app store to install again. The icon is not on my desk top, but in safari it shows as a downloaded app. Help!!!! What am I missing here? Thank you for your help.
