Snycing My Pictures folder in PC to iPad 2

I am having issues syncing my pictures to my iPad 2. I have succeeded in syncing thousands of pictures but for some reason it is not syncing all of my pictures. All of my pictures are in the 'My Pictures' folder on my PC - which is pretty much the default setup when downloading my camera pics to my computer. I have selected this location in iTunes for syncing. However, some subfolders are not syncing and some are. Sometimes a folder will sync and the first few pictures will sync and the rest won't. I have checked the properties of the photos and they are all the same. Does anyone know why my iTunes/iPad 2 will sync certain photos and not others? FYI - it isn't a space issue - I have a 64GB iPad 2 with over 50GB available. Also, I am not getting any errors - it goes through and completes the sync without any pop up errors. Please help! I'm not really sure what is going on, so let me ask a few questions.

First are all of the subfolders/albums you are trying to sync with directly under the MyPictures folder? In other words, folders inside folders won't sync, or if they do will not do so reliably.

Another thing you can try is to delete the photo cache. It's been known to get corrupted and cause problems. This will probably cause a much longer sync the next time, so make sure you have time to let it go when you try this.

Another thing to try is to turn on the Selected Folders option in iTunes on the Photos page. Turn off all but one or two folders and sync them. Then add one or two more folders at a time, syncing in between.

This should help in a couple ways. One, it shortens the amount to sync in one session so that there are less chances of problems. Two, if you check the results each time you'll at least be able to pinpoint what folders are causing a the problem, and examine their contents closely.

It worked out well! I deleted the photo cashe (there were actually two of them) and made sure all of my photos were in subfolders directly below the MyPictures folder (there were a couple that weren't) and it appears to have worked!! As you said, it took a long time to re sync, but it looks like it worked! The only reason why I want to check it in more detail when I have time is that the Properties for the MyPictures folder says there are over 17,000 files but only a little over 8,000 pics sync to my iPad. I know I have some videos that didn't sync but I know I don't have that many videos.

So... my next question is about the videos. I did check the box in iTunes on the Pictures tab to sync videos as well but they didn't sync. I believe these don't sync as they are not in the correct format. Do you know a shortcut to find all videos in MyPictuers and convert them to a format that the iPad can acknowledge and sync?

I'm afraid I don't have much experience converting videos. All I can do is point you at the iPad's spec page and suggest you use whatever converter you have to try and match one of those formats.

On the other hand, if you do not need those photos in the Photos app (and other than the ability to import them into Keynote I don't know of any reason) you can just drag them into iTunes and set up syncing in the Movies section. iTunes can read quite a few more formats than the iPad, and will automatically convert (most) of them when syncing.

To make sure your movies show up as movies in iTunes, right click on them after import and choose Get Info. In the Options tab make sure their Kind is set to Movie. After syncing the movies will show up in the Videos app.

My familiarity with Windows 7 is limited, and it's been a quite a while since I played with the older versions. That said, the best way to find all your movies in your folders would be to use the Find/Search function. Find one movie and make note of it's file extension (mp4, wma, etc). Then search for it on the computer (limited to that folder to quicker results). If I remember Windows 7 will even let you create a smart folder from the results that will update whenever you add or remove movies from the computer (or folder if set up that way), no matter where they are.

Also take note of other file extensions when browsing those folders. The remaining 9000 files may not be picture files, or not be supported picture formats.

I read this forum as I am experiencing the same problem. I do have all my photos ina special folder on my computer and there are subfolders. So I don't quite understand your advice to use only My Documents - I actually never use that folder at all. At any rate, up till yesterday I did not have any synch issues - all 15 subfolders were synchronized properly, but today it continues sending me a message: Not all pictures were synchorinized..." and I did the selective synchronization as you suggested, but still cannot figure out why 5 of the 15 folders stopped synchronizing. I guess, I need to clear my photo cache as you recommend -but I have no idea what it is and where it is located and how to do it, could you please explain? thank you!

You can sync with any folder you like. I omly mentioned the My Pictures folder because the OP was using it. The link in my first post goes to an explanation and method of deleting the photo cache.
