Want to connect iPad 1 to large monitor to watch movies stored on iPad (from iTunes)

Can anyone tell me if this will work Apple VGA Adapter - Apple Store (UK)

Having read some of the reviews on the product page, it appears itunes movies from the iPad do not show up while other applications do.

If the VGA connection does not work, will the HDMI adapter (below)work?

By the way, the monitor is not connected to a PC. Its a spare monitor which is connected to a PC right now.
