I looked at it the other day. The movies didn't seem to be that much cheaper than DVDs or blu-ray.
If I fill up my iPad, can I swap files onto my desktop hard drive, even if I can't watch them there? With the HDMI connection, how does the video quality compare to a disc? Does it stretch out properly, or does it make a little square like my desktop?
I have never done either, actually! Out of the loop, I guess.:o
I've never rented or bought. They are too expensive.

I havent rented any from itunes yet, normally if it is a good movie ill buy it. I change mine out from ipad to laptop, you just tell it what ones you want synced each time.
If you buy movies, you can copy from iPad to iTunes and also watch them on the computer. Only rented movies can't be transferred from the iPad to a computer.
Also, if you download an iTunes movie onto the iPad and watch it onto an extermal screen, it will have proper format, most likely widescreen. The movies are not displayed in the 4:3 iPad display ratio, if you use the HDMI connection.
As for video quality, iTunes SD videos have a somewhat lower video quality than normal DVDs and HD movies have a lower quality than Bluerays.
I donT rent, but watching my own ripped DVD collection through a hdmi cable from my iPad onto m tv is awesome. I'm sure the quality isn't 100% the same, but the Joe public, which most of us are, you'd not notice any difference.
The flexibility of watching films on tv via the iPad is truely amazing. We love it. Infect, haven't used the DVD player in weeks now.

I rent movies from iTunes regularly. I rarely watch a film more than once so it is not
worth me buying any.I download direct to iPad and enjoy being able to watch the film wherever I want to. I don't even choose the HD version, when there is one, as I find the standard version quality to be fine for me....and cheaper!
Don't buy or rent. I'm happy to wait the month to get it from Netflix with as many movies as I can turn around in a month. In truth we don't watch that many but if I have a yen, have a good instant queue if I'm on the one day in between DVDs with Netflix. For a number of years we had 4 but in the past year or so didn't really make good use of that many and when instant became available changed to streaming and one DVD at a time. More than enough,
I'm not much of a home movie watcher so I've never watched one through iTunes. There is always something on TV so it's hard for me to sit still and watch a movie at home.
