Depends on your sitting angle and the angle of the iPad. I have never had much issue
Outdoors isn't really a problem as long as you are not in direct sunlight... and you shouldn't be in direct sunlight anyway! I used to sit out on my back porch all the time (before winter hit) with my iPad reading and surfing.
And remember what your mother told you when you go outside, "Wear a hat!"
I live in North Carolina with lots of sunny weather. I never sit out in the direct sun to read but almost every day in the summer used my Ipad in the shade beside the pool or on our porch.
Normally, when I'm unable to see the screen, I just increase the screen brightness and change the viewing angle. It seems to be effective enough, so outdoor viewing isn't really a problem for me.

Thanks everyone!
Haha, glad to be of help! So how are you finding it's performance when outdoors?Quote:

Oh geez. I cannot see anything outside. Have to brightness turned up as far as I can and just faintly see something but can't make it out. I am so disappointed. I put a matte sheet on the screen but it didn't help.
I don't know. It's rained 29 out of 31 days in March and we haven't seen the yellow ball in the sky for 6-7 months. Oregon resident :(
