Cracked ipad screen

Hello! Two weeks after I bought my ipad (3G,32), something fell on the screen and cracked it. I talked to the Apple Dealer and I was very surpsised when he asked for 500 euros to replace the whole ipad with a new one...!! I was just asking for a screen replacement but he said this is not possible!
This is crazy! Imagine if you buy a car and because you break a flash light you have to replace the whole car!!!
Is this their way to sell more products? It is the first product I bought in my life that has no replacing accessories.
What shall I do? Any advice?
