    Print n Share

I was able to successfully set up Print n Share so that it sent all of the test documents to my Brother wireless printer. Since then, it has not printed any other documents. Not sure what to do or try next. Suggestions?

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

    Hey Tim,

Your're a gem! (I've seen your numerous posts trying to help others w/ various functions/apps!)

The first thing i tried was to restart the iPad. That one did not work. I keep forgetting; however, to close open apps - that suggestion DID work! Thank you!

Can I ask you sth about the app itself? I have of course read the description at the AppStore but am still not sure whether it is possible to print documents from standard USB connected printers. They say it does, but how exactly? Am I to understand that the process looks like the one you, Tim, wrote about in some other thread, where the app sends the document to the MAC/PC and it then translates the code to the printer etc.? Does it mean we basically only need to share the printer over WiFi? Sorry for asking stupid questions but printing is an issue for me.

I see that this is quite an old thread so I'll pick it up. Your understanding about Print n Share is correct. As long as you have a printer connected to your home computer, you would be able to print without having to purchase a wireless printer. It's fairly straightforward, you download and install a small application into your "Windows" computer (not sure about Macs... check the OS requirements), and the application sets up the whole thing for you. The same company that wrote Print n Share makes another program that is slightly more expensive and has a couple of extra features, but when I purchased Print n Share it was partially broken I believe. You can also read some of the reviews in the App Store to reconfirm what I have said here and maybe get some additional tips as it's been a while since I installed it.

I don't use Air Sharing HD so I can't help you with that one. Someone else is bound to jump in shortly. Good Luck!

Just downloaded the app Print n Share on my ipad and also WEprint to my computer. Still can't print. The ipad sees the printer but I keep getting the error message, "error printing via cups", Cups write data: status=-1 Not Found 152. I have no idea what this means. Is there any suggestions what this all means. I have a Brother HL-2270dw wireless printer.

I suggest you contact EuroSmartz directly with the error message. I found this on their site:

Printers require print drivers to print and if none are available, then you can’t print directly from the iPhone. However some WiFi printers and computers support CUPS/IPP (direct connection) and you won’t need to install the extra software to print using this app, but because of the lack of printer drivers this method is limited both in terms of document types & printers supported. This means you can print without using extra software if your printer supports it and if you only want to print basic document types - but installing WePrint will allow you to print ALL document types to ALL the printers that you can print with your computer.
